The End: Full Spectrum Giveaway

Thursday, May 21st, 2009

As of 12:00am this morning, when Wednesday the 20th turned into Thursday the 21st, entry into the Full Spectrum Music Giveaway closed.  Thanks very much to all who participated.

I’m off to Virgina for the weekend to play a couple shows with Darrell Scott and Bryn Davies.  When we return, I’ll announce and contact the winners.

In the meantime, have a great Memorial Day weekend.  Please remember not to use the grill spray over an open flame prior to enjoying your meat/meatless hot dogs.  And one last thing, watch out for monkeys on segways.

Thanks again,

Fire Hydrant Photo Gallery Posted

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

What?  A gallery of only fire hydrants? CLICK HERE TO VIEW ?>?>?>

Well, yes.  You see, over the last 4 years of travels, fire hydrants started to catch my eye.  Once I got out of my home city, I noticed that they were created in all manner of shapes, sizes, and colors.  Some are kept very business-like while others are used as a canvas for visual enjoyment.  In the gallery, I’ve indicated what city the hydrant was from if I knew.

There’s a good collection up there now, but I’ll continue to collect as I travel to new places.

Perhaps one day I’ll make a coffee table book for dogs.

enjoy,

SPECIAL CD RELEASE DAY KNEWS!

Tuesday, May 12th, 2009

Hey friends.  I have many tasty tidbits, mighty morsels, and yummy yaddas to share with you.

NEW RECORD

Oog Album Cover“Marvelous” – USA Today

It’s finally here! Oog has arrived! My newest record is a sonic chronicle of my life experience since record one was finished back in early 2006. I was joined by feared fearless musical adventure seekers Matt Chamberlain (drums, electronic mangulation, fiddle sticks), Viktor Krauss (basses), Darrell Scott (electric guitar, pedal steel guitar), and Fognode (field recordings, lap steel, synth). Jason Lehning recorded and mixed the project as well as co-producing it with me. Oog contains 10 originals and 2 been-done-befores. In addition, there are unique bonus tracks for both the physical CD and digital download.  Please visit My Store to claim your copy.

FULL SPECTRUM MUSIC GIVEAWAY

To celebrate the release of Oog, I’m giving away my 2 CDs in addition to 20 other CDs that I’ve played on over the past few years. To enter, simply visit my Full Spectrum Blog Post and leave a comment at the end. One grand prize winner (22 CDs) and 10 runner-ups (my 2 CDs) will be selected at random.  Entry must be made before midnight CDT on May 20, 2009. Watch the video.

NEW WEBSITE AND MYSPACE

It’s been a long time coming and I’m happy to say that cASEYdRIESSEN.com has a new brain. Be sure to check back periodically for new blog posts, videos, and photos. There aren’t many photos up yet, but I have a backlog of 3 years and I plan to add a new gallery just about every week.

My myspace has a new brain as well. It’s a fine place to go for a quick fix, but my website will have the freshest content. Also, I don’t respond to myspace-mail very often so please use my website contact page if you would like to reach me.

THE MEANING OF OOG

What does it mean? How is it pronounced? To shed a bit of light on those questions, and perhaps raise some others, I enlisted the help of a few friends while on tour recently. Watch the video.

THE MAKING OF OOG

For my first record 3D, I documented the process with still photography.  For Oog, I asked documentary film making friend Craig Havighurst to take a bit of motion photography. Here’s a glimpse into the recording studio process. Watch the video.

BACKWARDS FIDDLE CHALLENGE

Here’s a short short about a Bill Monroe / Kenny Baker fiddle tune that I messed with on Oog. Watch the video.

Two nights ago I had a very fun experience that I’d like to share in closing. Unwigged & Unplugged came to Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium. It’s a plain clothesed show by Christopher Guest, Michael McKean, and Harry Shearer (of This is Spinal Tap, A Mighty Wind, Waiting for Guffman, & Best in Show). They performed many of their “hits” and thoroughly entertained with commentary. I had the good fortune to sit in on three numbers with Béla Fleck and one on my own (Stonehenge). In a strange twist of irony, back in college, my buddies put together a Caf Show (short for cafeteria) specifically dedicated to This is Spinal Tap, and I performed on one tune there…Stonehenge.  I dressed up like a cross between a troll and a leprechaun and played the mandolin while a tiny Stonehenge was lowered from the rafters. This Sunday I played the fiddle in plain clothes, but behind me on the video screen, stuffed troll-leprechauns danced around a miniature descending Stonehenge.

I hope this letter finds you well and I hope we cross paths this year at least once.  Be well and travel safe,

Full Spectrum Music Giveaway

My Full Spectrum Music Giveaway is your chance to win 22 CDs!

full-spectrum-stack-vert

To celebrate the release of my new CD, Oog on May 12th, I am giving away autographed copies of my two solo CDs plus twenty CDs that I have played on — from artists like Steve Earle, Darrell Scott, Tim O’Brien, Béla Fleck, Abigail Washburn & The Sparrow Quartet and others.

Simply leave a comment at the end of this post to enter before midnight CDT on May 20, 2009. Ten runner-up winners will receive autographed copies of Oog and 3D.

Over the past three years since recording 3D, I’ve been busy recording and touring with the above named folks, my drums/bass/fiddle power trio I call The Colorfools, and squeezing in time writing and preparing to record this new album.  On Oog, I’ve invited a core of feared fearless tone adventurers: Matt Chamberlain (drums, percussion, electronic mangulation, fiddlesticks), Viktor Krauss (basses), Darrell Scott (electric guitars and pedal steel guitar), and Jason Lehning (co-producer and engineer).  Well respected and well recorded in their own right, Oog marks the first occasion for us five to be together — for all of one rehearsal and three days in the studio.  On select tracks, Fognode adds splashes of nuance with his combination of lap steel, synth and field recordings.

I’m excited about this new record and hope you’ll find a soundtrack or two to your daily happenings.

So here’s what the Grand Prize winner gets… Autographed copies of 3D and Oog, plus CDs from Abigail Washburn & the Sparrow Quartet, Béla Fleck, David Peterson & 1946, Tim O’Brien, Blue Merle, John Mayer, John Doyle, Steve Earle, Darol Anger, Darrell Scott, Jayme Stone & Mansa Sissoko, Frank Vignola, Robbie Fulks, Crooked Still, Mark Schatz, Judith Edelman, Hanneke Cassel, Wisechild, Disney’s The Fox & The Hound Soundtrack.

Thanks for entering! And now that you’re done, be sure to check out my MySpace to hear tracks off the new record.

Please feel free to spread the word and post about this on Facebook and Twitter.

Enjoy music,
